Closterotomus trivialis
This species has a rather variable appearance but is usually fairly distinctive once known. Females are greenish bugs, typically with an entirely green cuneus. The pronotum is usually marked with two dark spots in the centre and dark markings at the hind corners. Males often have a rather dark appearance, with more obscure markings on the pronotum and typically a red cuneus. In both sexes, the wing membrane is dusky and the veins reddish.
Native to the Mediterranean and first reported from London in 2009, this species has now been widely recorded in many parts of England and has probably been introduced multiple times in horticultural produce. Many records are from garden plants, but the bug is also found in natural habitats and appears to be highly polyphagous. Adults can occur surprisingly early in the year in south-east England.
